British Triathlon and English Institute of Sport Nutritionist
Job Description
Dr. Kevin Currell is the nutritionist for British Triathlon and his role involves making sure the athletes have the right nutrition at the right time to maximise their performance. If you don’t have the right fuel in the tank you cannot compete to your best, whereas if you get your nutrition right you can push your body beyond its limits. As a nutritionist, Kevin works with the other support team such as; the medics to make sure the athletes stay healthy, the physiologist for maximum performance gains and the psychologists to work on athlete behaviours.
Why Triathlon?
Kevin feels inspired by the athletes he works with and likes the nutritional challenges which occur when working with elite athletes. It is often difficult to give the athletes the right nutrients quickly and effectively because training is often tough and comes thick and fast, but doing so is a challenge Kevin enjoys.
Personal Sporting Achievement
One of Kevin's most memorable sporting achievements was completing Ironman UK in Bolton in 2009. He competed in the Outlaw Long Distance triathlon in Nottingham in July 2011 finishing in a respectable time of 12:27:21. He is a member of Charnwood Triathlon Club.
Triathlon highlight since working at BT
Kevin enjoyed travelling with the team to the Gold Coast Grand Final in 2009 and witnessing such inspirational racing from the British team.
