|DOB||21 May 1986 (age 30)|
Hazel is a paratriathlon guide working with visually impaired atheltes. She is originally from Newcastle Upon Tyne and now lives in Edinburgh. She is a member of the UK Sport Lottery Funded Great Britain Paratriathlon Squad. She was recruited to paratriathlon following the Guide 2 Gold talent identification programme in December 2014.
Hazel is a former Scottish national age group swimming champion. She won the 200m breast stroke title as a 13 year old. At Durham University she competed at national level in rowing. Durham has strong traditions in rowing and at 6ft with a background as a swimmer, rowing was a natural choice. But it was triathlon that she later settled on after her parents bought her a road bike for her birthday in 2010; her father also competes in triathlon.
In 2014 Hazel won both the national Sprint and Standard distance national titles in her Age-Group (25-29). She was also selected as a reserve for the Scottish Commonwealth Games Triathlon Team.
Hazel has a BSc from Durham University in Environmental Geoscience and an MSc from Newcastle University in Sustainable Water Management. She works part time for AECOM, an international engineering company, as a Senior Hydrologist.
